Cancel Culture is born from a sense of righteous anger towards the tendency of ‘cancelling’, which continues to infest parts of our society. It takes a stand against not being heard and facing ignorance. This premise translates into an album that stirs a dystopian atmosphere where feelings of grudge, frustration and confusion can run freely across a sonic grid.

The story begins at ‘Arrival’ as Cancel voices his intentions and invites you to enter your darkness – simultaneously being his own emotional process. The sinister opening sequence is followed by ‘Sunken World’. It’s track with a pleasant broken rhythm and a stroke of creative cleverness captured in the way Cancel uses a subtle sub-bass frequency to indicate downward movement. As the album progresses, multiple aspects meet the eye and ear. For instance, the artist doesn’t shy away from touching a bold variety of textures. Take the hypnotic quality in ‘Deform’ and pair it with the filthiness that drives ‘Silent Treatment’ and the heterogeneity becomes evident. Another interesting element is the thought-through form of tracklisting. Each title represents a chapter within the concept, a stage in the process of dealing with the flaws of the outside world – sewn into the storyline of the music itself.
